Tom Sandoval will welcome any and all constructive criticism from Simon Cowell.
“He said the vocals could use a little work, or something along those lines,” Sandoval, 42, exclusively shared with Us Weekly after his America’s Got Talent audition aired. “But, you know, that’s great. I mean, Simon hears people that are comparable to, like, Celine Dion, and they sing incredibly well. Of course I would expect some healthy criticism from him.”
On Tuesday, June 24, viewers watched the Vanderpump Rules alum and his cover band named Tom Sandoval and the Most Extras audition on NBC’s competition show.
From our partners:
Cowell, 65, and fellow judges Howie Mandel, Mel B and Sofía Vergara all voted for Sandoval’s band to make it into the next round of competition after their cover of A-ha’s “Take On Me.”

“For me, the vocals weren’t great, Tom. I’m going to be honest with you,” Cowell said in his critique. “However, not everyone comes on this show to get a record deal. Sometimes, it’s about being true to who you are. I’m going to say yes.”
Before taking the stage to perform, Sandoval admitted that he wasn’t quite sure what the judges would think of his act.

“Obviously, it was so nerve-wracking to go on that stage,” he told Us. “I mean, you’re performing in front of Simon Cowell … the guy who’s famously destroyed people on stage.”
Lucky for Sandoval, the response from judges and viewers alike has been overwhelmingly positive.
While the show has personally been a rewarding experience for Sandoval, the Traitors alum is so grateful his band members have been given a huge platform to show off their talents.
“At a point in my life, [this group was] the only thing I had keeping me going, the only thing I had really going for me, and it really saved me in a lot of ways,” he told Us. “It really helped a lot so much. I feel like it saved me.”
While Sandoval is staying mum on what the band has in store for their next performance, he’s hopeful Tom Sandoval and the Most Extras will have a big tour in the fall.

When asked what he would do if his band wins America’s Got Talent and the $1 million prize, Sandoval — who dreams of sharing the stage with Muse frontman Matt Bellamy — said he isn’t even thinking about that.
“Look, there are so many talented people out there that are auditioning, and I think it’s just taking it one step of step at a time,” he said. “I’m just so grateful to be there in any aspect. I’m honored to be among such great, amazing talent. So to me, that’s the biggest win out of anything.”
America’s Got Talent airs on NBC Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET. Stream old episodes anytime via Peacock.
