Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck went from being Hollywood’s “It” couple to navigating a marriage on the rocks while in the public eye.
Garner and Affleck began dating in 2004 before saying “I do” the following year. They welcomed three children during their marriage: Violet, Seraphina and Samuel.
Despite their sweet family outings over the years, Garner and Affleck announced their separation on June 30, 2015. Their divorce was finalized three years later. Since then, they’ve been both publicly and privately supportive of each other and their subsequent relationships as they coparent their three children.

Affleck and Garner first crossed paths when they were both cast in the 2000 film Pearl Harbor. She was married to her first husband, Scott Foley, at the time. Affleck began dating Lopez for the first time in 2002 after meeting on the set of the film Gigli. The pair got engaged that same year.
They Collaborated on ‘Daredevil’ in 2003
The former couple shared the screen again in 2003’s Daredevil. Lopez and Affleck ended up postponing their wedding that year before confirming their breakup in January 2004. Garner’s marriage to Foley also came to an end in 2004.

With their newly single status, things quickly turned romantic between Affleck and Garner after the pair hit it off via email.
“Well, it helped that we were both single at the time,” she told Parade in January 2010. “He’s a very good writer.”
They were spotted packing on the PDA at the October 2004 World Series, confirming their relationship. It wasn’t long before they got engaged in April 2025.

Wedding bells were ringing for the pair in June 2005, when they walked down the aisle in a private ceremony in Turks and Caicos. Shortly after, they announced they were expecting their first child together.

Affleck and Garner entered parenthood in December 2005 with the arrival of their eldest daughter, Violet. Their second child, Seraphina, was born in January 2009. They welcomed their son, Samuel, in February 2012.
“I am madly in love,” Affleck gushed over fatherhood during an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in September 2010. “I have the best family … I could not be luckier. I really have come right to the place where I was supposed to be. You’ve got to knock wood. I’ve gone around and I’ve taken some rights and lefts and found myself at a place that is really wonderful, and that I’m really grateful for.”

Garner opened up about her marriage six years after tying the knot with the actor.
“We both know we couldn’t do what we do without each other,” she told InStyle in December 2011. “He knows when to swoop in with the gesture. He’s sweet that way. Honestly, I would do anything for that man, because I know it’s not to be taken for granted.”

The Couple’s Separation Shocked the World
Affleck and Garner surprised fans when they announced their separation in June 2015 after a decade of marriage.
“After much thought and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to divorce,” they said in a joint statement. “We go forward with love and friendship for one another and a commitment to coparenting our children whose privacy we ask to be respected during this difficult time. This will be our only comment on this private, family matter. Thank you for understanding.”
Though they were separated, Affleck took time to give Garner props for being a great role model for their kids the following year.
“Jen is a superhero mom,” he told E! News in March 2016. “She is an amazing mother and I’m really lucky to have her as a partner to coparent these kids with. We try our best, we put them first and that’s what we do.”
Two years after announcing their separation, the pair officially filed for divorce in April 2017. Their divorce was finalized in October 2018.

After his divorce from Garner, Affleck moved on by rekindling his romance with Lopez in April 2021. They got married in July 2022. Lopez filed for divorce in August 2024, and the divorce was finalized in January 2025.
Garner, for her part, moved on with boyfriend John Miller, whom she has been in an on-again, off-again relationship with since 2018.
While she and Affleck are no longer married, they continue to prioritize coparenting their children and have been photographed as a family on public outings since their divorce. They were recently spotted together at LAX airport while picking up their son in June 2025.
Affleck praised his coparenting relationship with Garner nearly a decade after they announced their separation.
“I’m really lucky that I have a really good coparent and partner in Jennifer Garner, the kids’ mom, who’s wonderful and great and we work together well,” he said in a March 2025 GQ interview.
