Where Was ‘Echo Valley’ Filmed? Real-Life Location of Thriller Film Revealed

Echo Valley has taken Apple TV+ by storm since its June 6, 2025, debut.

The thriller, starring Julianne Moore, Sydney Sweeney, Domhnall Gleeson, Kyle MacLachlan, Edmund Donovan and Fiona Shaw, had a limited theatrical release before it premiered on the streaming platform. Those who have seen the film can’t stop talking about the intriguing location — a farm called Echo Valley.

Us Weekly reveals whether or not Echo Valley is a real place and where the movie was actually filmed.

Is Echo Valley a Real Place?

Echo Valley was inspired by screenwriter Brad Ingelsby’s aunt, who operated a horse farm of the same name.

“So much of his inspiration comes from people that he’s met or stories that he’s heard,” director Michael Pearce told NJ.com in June 2025. “We actually went to his aunt’s house to visit the real place and just to meet her, the person who kind of inspired this story. I was quietly hoping that her location would work for the film, but it just wasn’t quite right [for the screen] … I totally understood why Brad was inspired by it.”

In the film, Echo Valley is said to be located in southern Pennsylvania. However, the movie was not actually filmed in the Keystone State.

Where Was ‘Echo Valley’ Filmed?

Echo Valley was filmed in several counties in New Jersey, including Hunterdon County and Rockaway, per IMDb.

Pearce explained the process of finding a location that was perfect to serve as the fictitious Echo Valley.

“It took a long, long time to find that location,“ he said. ”We felt like we saw every horse farm in New Jersey, and they didn’t have all of the things that we were looking for, because we needed a place that looked idyllic enough that you understood why Julianne’s character wanted to keep hold of it. It needed to be atmospheric and evocative enough that you could sustain three-quarters of the movie there. It needed this big old barn and this apartment above the stables, and it was just hard to find a place that ticked all those boxes.”

A large part of Moore and Sweeney’s scenes were filmed at a farm in Delaware Township, New Jersey.

“We found this location very late in preproduction,” Pearce added. “We were only a few weeks away from shooting, and we all breathed a big sigh of relief, because I went there with my production team and we walked around and we looked at each other and we were all nodding. And we were like, ‘Wow, this is the place.’ It was a bit tricky to get because it was being sold. So I think the lawyers at the production company didn’t want us to work there because it was in escrow. But in the end, we just campaigned and we said it had to be this farm. There’s no plan B.”

What Is ‘Echo Valley’ About?

Echo Valley is the name of the farm in which Kate Garrett (Moore) works as a horse trainer, but she’s struggling with the upkeep of the place after the death of her wife.

She looks to her attorney/ex-husband, Richard Garrett (MacLachlan), for help concerning her finances. Kate reveals that her and Richard’s daughter, Claire Garrett (Sweeney), is struggling with a drug addiction, and she’s spent a large part of her wealth paying for Claire’s rehab stays.

Claire visits her mom on the farm and her ex-boyfriend, Ryan (Donovan), shows up to spoil their reunion. Claire leaves the farm with Ryan and later returns to reveal that she ended up killing him during a dispute. Kate helps her dispose of a dead body wrapped in a blanket. After the alleged murder, a drug dealer by the name of Jackie Lawson (Gleeson) shows up to demand money that Claire owes him.

Later on, Kate grows concerned after Claire disappears from the farm. When Kate goes to look for Claire, she shockingly finds her with Ryan, revealing that he wasn’t actually dead. Ryan pushes Kate before leaving with Claire. After Kate recovers from the fall, she returns home to find Jackie there to question her about the body she helped conceal.

Jackie reveals that the dead body was that of a man named Greg Kaminski, who died from an overdose after buying drugs from Ryan. After drugging Kate, Jackie tells her of his master plan to burn down the barn to get insurance money. She ends up doing it, only to later be questioned by police about human remains found on the property. Police also question Jackie.

It’s revealed that Kate planted Greg’s dead body in the barn before burning it down. She also intentionally left behind a piece of the road flare that Jackie bought to burn the house down. Eventually, the police draw the conclusion that Greg died from drugs supplied to him by Jackie, and Jackie ultimately ended up lighting the house on fire to dispose of the evidence.

Jackie is ultimately charged for the crime, and Kate walks free. At the end of the film, Claire comes back to the farm after Kate hires a crew to clean up the ashes from the fire.
