Jensen Ackles Teases ‘Supernatural’ Reunion on ‘The Boys’ Season 5

Jensen Ackles is sharing new insight into the Supernatural reunion on The Boys season 5.

Eric Kripke, who created Supernatural, he is also the writer [and] showrunner of The Boys. When he likes to work with somebody, he likes to continue working with them,” Ackles, 47, shared during his Monday, June 23, appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. “I was the benefactor of that, obviously.”

The actor continued, “But then he thought, ‘Oh, what a great idea. Let’s just bring the cast back together.’ Splash the ratings a little bit, not that it needs it.”

Ackles made his The Boys debut as Soldier Boy during the show’s third season in 2022. Earlier this year, it was announced that his former Supernatural costars Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins would be joining The Boys for its upcoming final season.

“It was funny because there was a little concern that we’re going to get Jared, Misha and Jensen together and it’s going to be a little wacky,” Ackles continued. “Because 15 years together, we got a little off. There’s a lot of history, but it was also a house that we built, and we were able to destroy it the way we wanted to.”

Ackles joked he had to “remind” Padalecki, 42, and Collins, 50, that “this isn’t our house,” referencing The Boys set.

“You gotta behave. Jared, you’ve gotta flush the toilet. You’ve gotta flush the toilet here,” he quipped. “No, but it was a really good time. I can’t wait to be able to say more.”

Ackles and Padalecki played brothers Dean and Sam Winchester, respectively, on Supernatural, which premiered on The WB in 2005 (before it became The CW). Collins joined the show in 2009 as Castiel.

While appearing on The Tonight Show, Ackles also spoke about the continued support for Supernatural — and how their fan conventions keep getting bigger.

“I thought they would fizzle out,” he said. “The show’s been off for five years, and they’re still growing. We’re still getting asked to come to these different cities.”

He added, “It’s really unique. For someone who was behind the camera doing film, doing television, we don’t have an audience. We have a camera that gives us absolutely no emotional response. … Now we get to go and see these crowds of people who really enjoy what we do and it’s energizing, as I’m sure you can imagine. It’s great.”

Ackles noted that the possibility of a Supernatural reboot is “always hanging out there” — even after 15 seasons.

“There was a reason we did it for 15 years. We enjoyed it. We enjoyed each other. We enjoyed the story, the characters,” he said. “It was hard to hang it up, but I don’t know that we ever hang it up in Supernatural.”

The Boys is available to stream on Prime Video.
