Influencer Shares Story Behind Anne Burrell’s Last IG Selfie Before Death

The influencer in Annie Burrell’s final Instagram selfie is speaking out in the wake of the Food Network star’s untimely death.

Elizabeth Sweetheart, known as The Green Lady of Brooklyn online, recalled Burrell running up to her, giving her a hug and taking a selfie.

“I don’t know her. I meet a lot of people,” Sweetheart, 84, told Daily Mail on Monday, June 23. “But I am the last photo on her Instagram. She [tagged] the photo of me and her to my Instagram, so then I got all the messages. I know she has passed. I posted a message afterwards for her family on Instagram. She said she had been wanting to meet me for so long, and she finally did, so she was very happy.”

Sweetheart did not tell the outlet what she and Burrell talked about and noted that she hasn’t spoken with the Worst Cooks in America host’s family.

“Anne was a beloved wife, sister, daughter, stepmother, and friend — her smile lit up every room she entered,” Burrell’s family said in a statement. “Anne’s light radiated far beyond those she knew, touching millions across the world. Though she is no longer with us, her warmth, spirit, and boundless love remain eternal.”

Her cause of death has not yet been released. Per a June 20 New York Times report, the New York City Police Department is investigating whether a possible drug overdose caused Burrell’s death. The outlet reported that Burrell was “discovered in the shower unconscious and unresponsive surrounded by approximately (100) assorted pills.”

Burell is survived by husband Stuart Claxton, stepson Javier, mother Marlene, and sister Jane.
