Selena Gomez Celebrates Season 5 of ‘Only Murders in the Building’

Selena Gomez is feeling all types of emotions now that Only Murders in the Building season 5 has wrapped production.

Gomez, 32, took to Instagram on Wednesday, June 18, to share a video in which she completed her final scene with costar Martin Short. The “Calm Down” singer wiped away tears and smiled as the cast and crew burst into applause.

“To my Only Murders family, the past 5 years, you all have seen my best and my worst. I hope you [are] reading this, because I deeply appreciate each and every one of you,” Gomez wrote in the caption. “Words can’t describe how much I love what we’ve all created, and we wouldn’t be here without you all! Love you guys. Thank you for another great season.”

One day prior to Gomez’s post, the official Only Murders in the Building Instagram account announced that season 5 had finished production. The page shared a video of Gomez, Short, Steve Martin, Michael Cyril Creighton and new guest stars Logan Lerman, Renée Zellweger and Téa Leoni telling the crew, “That’s a wrap on season 5 of Only Murders in the Building.”

‘Only Murders in the Building’ Adds Logan Lerman to the Cast for Season 5

“That’s a wrap on Season 5! 🎬 Thank you to our incredible cast and crew for a fantastic production. New mystery coming soon…” the caption read.

Only Murders in the Building stars Gomez, Short and Martin as Mabel Mora, Oliver Putman, and Charles Haden Savage, respectively — three residents of the Arconia apartment building in New York City. Though they came from different walks of life, Mabel, Oliver and Charles were brought together by their love of true crime before going on to start their own podcast to solve murders that take place on the Arconia grounds.

Each season has focused on a different death, and season 5 will be no different. As fans know, in the season 4 finale Lester the doorman (Teddy Coluca) was found dead in the courtyard fountain.

“Our beloved doorman has a hold of a large amount of tenants in our buildings’ secrets and many other things about his life were interesting for me to sort of explore. The very nature of a doorman in a pre-war apartment building, in New York City in 2025,” creator John Hoffman told Decider in October 2024. “[It] felt very, very interesting to look at in terms of what our show has always been about, which is classic meets newer. We really are dipping our toe into a New York City in season 5 that feels particularly ripped from the headlines in certain ways that we’ve not done before.”

Hoffman continued, “And going into some modern new take on the power in New York along the lines with, ‘What happens with the power in New York in regards to the classic respect and sort of protocols that have always been there that exist in these sort of buildings?’ with a doorman and the respect and all of that. And how does modern technology come into all of that?”

He concluded, “So some of these things are being brought up within the next season, granted in comedic ways and fun ways, but also hopefully in pointed ways like we haven’t shown before.”
