‘16 and Pregnant’ Star Claims Son’s Death Could Have Been ‘Prevented’

16 and Pregnant star Whitney Purvis claimed that her son Weston Jr.’s death could have been “prevented” — and is accusing his dad, Weston Gosa Sr., of causing health insurance issues.

“Tell me if this makes sense,” Purvis, 33, wrote in a lengthy Facebook post on Wednesday, June 18. “My son had diabetes, Addison’s disease, and alpha one anti-trypsin [sic] deficiency, and he had no medical insurance, but he had a life insurance policy taken out on him.”

Purvis and Weston Sr. welcomed their son in April 2009 during the first season of the MTV reality series. Weston Jr. died earlier this month. He was 16.

In her post, Purvis accused Gosa of purchasing multiple vehicles instead of paying for medical insurance. She also slammed Gosa for creating a GoFundMe for Weston Jr.’s funeral expenses, claiming that he previously bragged “about how much money he has.”

“His death could’ve been prevented,” Purvis continued. “He should have had a Dexcom/glucose monitor that alerted when his sugar was going up or down to a dangerous level. In our custody order, he was supposed to have medical insurance on our kids; that was part of our agreement.”

Purvis also addressed allegedly being turned away from the Weston Jr.’s funeral, which took place on Saturday, June 14, following reports she had missed the services.

“As for the funeral, they wanted to say I was on the list, then why couldn’t I come in? I said there must be some kind of mistake, and they said no,” she wrote, claiming that Weston Sr. “knew I was out there and told them to have me leave the property.”

“Does that sound like I was just late, or does it sound like he didn’t want me there at all?” she continued. “If he was a decent person, he could’ve made sure I at least got to say my goodbyes to him. I begged him to do something.”

Purvis shared that Weston Jr. was cremated on Tuesday, June 17. She explained she wanted to “say goodbye” and take a “lock of his hair and some [of] his ashes.” Purvis claimed that Gosa has been ignoring her messages.

Gosa denied Purvis’ claims in a statement to Us Weekly.

“She’s mad and she’s resorted to Facebook to make all these false accusations against me and my family,” Gosa told Us. “It’s ridiculous we have to deal with this while we try to mourn the loss of our son.”

Gosa also released a statement to TMZ addressing Weston Jr.’s medical insurance situation.

“She has no idea what she’s talking about,” he told the outlet. “The state canceled his insurance because of how much money I was making, so I quit and let my wife work while I stay home and spend time with my family.”

Gosa added that his family tried to have Weston Jr.’s insurance reinstated and paid thousands out of pocket for his son’s visits to the doctor, medication and care. Gosa also clarified that Weston Jr. previously had a glucose monitor but stopped using the device because it was “sketchy” and inaccurate.
